Chinese troops transgress Sikkim sector, jostle with Indian army

NEW DELHI, Jun 26: In another transgression, Chinese troops entered India in the Sikkim sector and jostled with Indian army personnel guarding the Sino-India frontier, besides destroying two bunkers.

The face-off has been going on in Doka La general area in Sikkim for the past ten days and the Chinese troops have also stopped the batch of pilgrims that was proceeding for Kailash Mansovar yatra, official sources said today.

The Indian troops had to struggle hard to stop the Chinese personnel from advancing further into Indian Territory. They formed a human wall along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to stop the PLA personnel, some of whom also videographed and click pictures of the incident.

The bunkers have been destroyed in Lalten area of the Doka La area.

A flag meeting was also held between senior army officers of both the sides on June 20, but the tension still continues.

It is not the first time that such a transgression has happened at the Doka La, a place at the Sikkim-Bhutan-Tibet tri-junction.

The Chinese forces had in November 2008 destroyed some makeshift Indian army bunkers at the same place. (PTI)

Meanwhile, China today said it was in talks with India over the denial of entry to 47 Indian pilgrims who were scheduled to travel to Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet through the Nathu-la pass in Sikkim.

"According to my information, the two governments are in touch over this issue," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Suhang told reporters, declining to elaborate whether it was due to any weather-related issues like landslides and rains the Pilgrims were stopped by the Chinese officials at the Sino-India border.

He said the issue was being discussed by the two foreign ministries.

City police clueless on Taying's murder case

Staff Reporter

ITANAGAR, Jun 26:   Even after two weeks since the brutal assault on Ojing Taying, the city police are reportedly clueless on whereabouts of culprits responsible for late Taying's death.

On claims that Taying's friends had provided the vehicle model, colour and registration number, the police informed The Arunachal Times that the vehicle number provided was incorrect.

"We have cross-verified the vehicle numbers provided by friends of the deceased, but no such number exists", said a police officer.

According to the police, a major setback in late Taying's death case is the difficulty of tracing vehicles and culprits from CCTV footage. The strategic locations of CCTV cameras in the Capital Complex were reportedly verified and watched by the police, but there is not much evidence to give the police any concrete leads.

Reportedly, on the night of June 10, two unidentified persons allegedly assaulted late Taying with a block of wood, following which he succumbed to his injuries. An FIR has been lodged with Itanagar Police Station.

Late Taying was the Finance Secretary of the All East Siang District Students' Union.

Re-launch CM health insurance at the earliest

Days after Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) raised concern over discontinuation of CM health insurance, the state government on Sunday clarified that programme has not been discontinued and will be re-launched with some fine tuning The clarification of state government has come in right time. Over the last few months people has been facing difficult time as hospitals are refusing to accept CM health insurance card. This scheme is among those rare govt sponsored schemes which have truly benefited the poor people of state. Often it seen that schemes are announced in media but never gets properly implemented at grass root.

Government spends crores of money to implement various schemes in order to uplift poor and needy people. But unfortunately money does not reach the actual beneficiaries. Corrupt govt officials along with Panchayat leaders are the root cause of the failure of govt schemes. CM health insurance scheme somehow survived the nefarious design of corrupt babus and was quite successful in the initial years. Government should take urgent steps to ensure that said scheme is re-launched at the earliest. Also state government should explore the possibilities of implementing more schemes on the line of CM health insurance scheme which truly benefits the poor and needy people of Arunachal.

Interior Arunachal and Aadhar

Dear Editor,

Through your esteem daily, on behalf of the parents in the remotest regions would like to draw your kind attention that the state government has made Aadhar card as compulsory for students in every schools in the state. Indeed, it is appreciable initiative taken by the state govt. However, after imposing the Aadhar card as mandatory in the schools, the various school Headmaster in charge as well as students of the far flung regions are being faced a lot of untold problem as some of the administrative circles headquarters do not have roads, electricity. Even govt has asked the students of class VI onwards to open bank account in their name and the same Xerox copy should be submitted to the concern School Headmaster in charge. And to open thereof they have to walk on foot 100 to 150 Km to reach the District Headquarter. Sometimes, they  can’t even open accounts for various reasons.

In such circumstance, what can the poor student do?

It is also pertinent to mention that most of the parents of the students are living below property line and their wards are solely depending on hostel stipends for their food and cloths especially remotest regions of the state like Pip- Sorang, Damin, Sarli and Parsi Parlo.

Hence, I would like to appeal to the state govt and concern Deputy Commissioner of the district to constitute a special team and deploy them with equipment to carry out aadhar card enrolment in the far flung regions of the state.

Yours,

Bake Peter,

Parsi Parlo

Vulgar exploitation of demographic equation

Dear Editor,

This is in response to the editorial titled "Caste politics"(June 23) and Insaf's article titled "Battle for Rashtrapati"(June 24).

I don't care about the educational qualifications of Ram Nath Kovind and Meira Kumar. A person's worth needs to be judged on the basis of his/her honesty, values, sincerity, neutrality, dignity, humility, humanity and efficiency and these traits are not a bit dependent upon mere academic degree. Else we would have to conclude that the "highly educated" Osama Bin Laden and various other similarly "academically brilliant" terrorists are persons of greater quality than certificate-less Rabindranath Tagore and Ramakrishna Paramahansa!

In an ideal situation, I don't care about the demographic status of the Presidential candidates because all persons in the globe are born equal and all can excel in their respective fields if they desire to do so. Only a supreme casteist and inhumanitarian  can only claim that Dalits are not eligible for non-menial jobs. However it must be ensured that the concerned person, irrespective of his/her demographic credential,  is eligible enough to don the particular post.

So Kovind or Kumar, if elected President, might perform brilliantly just like Pranab Mukherjee. Moreover, though I am not aware of Kovind's quality and deed vividly, but well acquainted of Kumar's personality. She is a very humble gentle smiling dignified civilized lady(unlike the politicians throughout the length and breadth of the country) who had performed the role of  Lok Sabha Speaker with utmost grace and civility. So personally, I would feel elated to see her on the Presidential Chair.

But unfortunately the whole process of Presidential race has indeed left a very bad taste in our mouths because it is being contested not on the basis of merit; but scandalously on sheer caste basis which is extremely unfortunate.

When Pranab Mukherjee got nominated for Presidentship ; his Bengali, Brahmin or Hindu origin neither mattered nor did it come into the picture. But in the present case, it is the "projection on  Dalits" all along! That too of "Bihar vs UP" vintage! This directly proves that the main inspiration behind their nominations are their caste identities(regional credentials also in a subtle way) instead of their qualities which is extremely unfortunate.

On the one hand, we will zealously claim "We are all Indians"; on the other hand, we will engage in elections(right from Panchayat to Raisina Hill) by cleverly exploiting race, language, region, religion, caste, sub-caste or sex! This norm of blatant hypocrisy is simply not done! Pampering any particular group of population is no less heinous than exploiting them. Yes, any particular sect or group can feel proud and happy if one of their affiliated members don any significant Chair on merit; but one cannot be delivered any Chair on a platter just to keep his/her "very own" in good humour! Punjabis can feel happy to view the highly eligible and talented Virat Kohli as Indian captain, but can Kohli be handed captainship just to cheer up the Punjabis? Never would India integrate on psychological terms if such vulgar exploitation of demographic equation gets displayed in all developments which matter in national sphere.

Yours,

Kajal Chatterjee,
